NO SNOW

"I’mmmm Drea-ming of a Whiiii-te … Christ-mas."

Go ahead … It’s okay to sing along. But, don’t you find it strange? So far … a snow-less winter for us in Lynn? I can’t say that I’m all too sad about it. The only time I really think about it, is when someone brings up the subject. Let’s face it. It’s not like we’re in the mountains and can’t wait to put on our skis or rev up our snowmobiles. Christmas came and went without a flurry. There were no slippery roads on New Year’s Eve. Brand new snow blowers are still sitting in garages waiting to impress the neighbors. Does anybody care?

"Fro-sty the snow-man … "

But … What about the kids? Hey … They survived their Christmas vacation without a snowball fight. They got to ride the new bikes they got for Christmas. OK … So the new sled is standing by. Not to worry! I’m sure the white stuff will fall sooner or later … Probably in April. I wonder what Frosty’s been doing with his money? There’s no "snow-banks" open. We can’t all joke about it. Lots of us New Englanders rely on a good healthy snowfall.

"Ohhhh … The weather out-side is fright-ful!"

There’s that guy who loves to block the end of my driveway with a pile of snow from his plow. He makes the street look beautifully clear of snow ... Now, if I could just get to it. But seriously, these people in their trucks and four-wheeling vehicles brave the high winds and freezing temperatures that usually accompany heavy snowfalls to make our streets and roads safe for us to travel and go about our business. Just don’t get behind them when you’re in a rush to get anywhere.

"It’s a beau-ti-ful sight … We’re Hap-py To-night…"

But, what’s more beautiful than a fresh blanket of snow covering the trees in the back yard? There’s nothing more delightful than watching Cookie (that’s my dog) create a path through the smooth snow sheets on the lawn and … unfortunately sign the scene like she just painted it. Oh well … Nothing a shovel full won’t hide. After a fresh snowfall, everything seems to be quiet, yet cheery. The birds and squirrels don’t seem to mind the cold under their feet. Although Rocky (that’s my cat) is a bit amusing, shaking off his paws after every step.

"And There’s Really no Place to go …"

Domenica (that’s my wife) seems to be happy with the situation. She doesn’t like driving in the snow. I’m sure others feel the same. You really can’t get around too easily in the snow. Getting to work and running errands becomes a hassle when there’s a foot or so on the ground. And when the sky dumps a huge load of heavy wet snow, don’t you just want to curl up on the couch in front of the TV and do nothing and go nowhere?

"Let it Snow … Let it Snow … Let it Snow."

Not "my wife"! She just tells me to put on my coat, boots and gloves and sings …

"…Walking in a Win-ter Won-der-land!"
