OUR PETS

"Hello … Hi … Hi … Luv ya … Hi!"

This question goes out to everyone who has ever had a pet … Aren't they the cutest and most adorable creatures? I know there are especially a lot of dog and cat lovers in Lynn but I also know some Lynner's who own other kinds of pets such as rabbits, snakes, gerbils, birds and ferrets. Of course, as Luke (that's our fish) would want to remind us … Fish are pets too. Standing here looking into the face of Cookie (that's my dog), I can't help but wonder … "What is she thinking?"

"Got food? … Wanna play? … Let me kiss you! … Let me kiss you!"

Rocky (that's our cat) gave us the biggest laugh the other night. He somehow managed to slip out the door as I was closing it. Problem was … The screen-door was closed. He was squished between them. At least fifteen minutes went by, when Cookie was causing a racket in the kitchen alerting us to the situation. There in the window of our kitchen door was what looked like a double sized "Garfield toy" smooshed and staring at us. He managed to get his twenty-five pounds of fur and flab, high enough for us to inspect his massive white underbelly. What a sight!!

"Look at me! … Hi! … Here I am! … Luv ya! … Hello! I'm down here!"

And isn't it strange when you own more than one pet? I swear Cookie acts more like Rocky every day. After all, they grew up together. Rocky, as most cats, is totally unpredictable … except when it comes to eating. You can be sure when he wants to eat … That would be every time he enters the kitchen. Any other time, have a camera ready. Rocky is also very smart. He teaches Cookie how not to act like a dog. She really thinks she's a cat sometimes. We're waiting for her to "meow". Oh yeah … and Luke rises to the top of his fishbowl to look at you when you call him.

"I'm talkin to ya! … Yoo Hoo! … Ya gonna drop that or what?"

I have to say … Cookie is the cutest. She's not like any dog we had before. Cookie likes to float on her pool-toy, open and close doors, lay on a windowsill, walk on her hind legs and jump up to kiss your cheek. She likes to sleep under the covers, share your food and go for walks (this is new … first five years she refused to walk on a leash) … Now she can't wait to hit the pavement. Cookie loves me too. This I am sure of … unlike Rocky … Cookie reminds me constantly.

"I'm droolin down here! … H-e-l-l-oooo! … Whatcha doin' to me?"

How? You may ask … Not by the wagging of her tail. She never wags her tail. She hardly has one. She's a Boston Terrier. She does, however, wag her entire butt. Cookie will follow me everywhere I go. She won't come in the living room or dining room though. She knows better. Unless we have the fireplace lit … Sprawling out in front of it is a treat for her. Rocky comes and goes as he pleases. He never listens. We have to chase him from where he's not welcomed. Cookie, I swear, often seems like she's trying to tell me something. Hmmm? What could it be?

"Dad … Why are you standing there holding a pork chop?"
